Welcome to Sycamore Class!
In Sycamore class we strive to try our best, respect each other and reflect positively on our work. Year 5 is a hard working year group who are resilient throughout. Sycamore class is led by Mr Denton with Miss Cuff also working in Year 5. Swimming is on a Monday morning with PE taking place on a Friday afternoon. Home learning will also be set on a Friday and due the following Friday.
Learning this term:
In English, children have been studying Legends and reading the story of Beowulf; we have also studied persuasive writing. We will also look at writing historical texts before the end of the Autumn term. In Maths, we are looking at multiplication and division this half term. We are focussing on written methods in line with our calculation policy. We are currently exploring Earth and Space in Science and we are really enjoying being inquisitive and researching our solar system. In History, we are learning all about the Mayans.
Please help and encourage your child’s learning by:
– Reading a wide variety of books together, commenting on their content and expressing opinions about the characters, setting and plot.
– Checking unfamiliar words and exploring vocabulary with a dictionary.
– Learning times tables and number bonds and ensuring they complete ongoing homework tasks.
– Encouraging them to be independent and develop their general organisational skills.
