SYCAMORE CLASS

Welcome to Sycamore Class!

In Sycamore class we strive to try our best, respect each other and reflect positively on our work. Year 5 is a hard working year group who are resilient throughout. Sycamore class is led by Mr Denton with Mrs Johnson also working in Year 5. PE is on a Monday and a Friday. Home learning will also be set on a Friday and due the following Thursday.

Learning this term:

In English, we are studying sci-fi stories, a nice link with our Science topics and the children are writing their own stories including language features such as “show me not tell me”.  In Maths, we are looking at multiplication and division this half term. We are focussing on written methods in line with our calculation policy.  We are currently exploring Earth and Space in Science and we are really enjoying being inquisitive and researching our solar system. In Geography, we are learning all about coastlines and sea defences. At the end of the unit the children will be planning their own!

We have also been fortunate to be given our own trout eggs by the River Ribble Trust! These eggs will have more chance of surviving than if they were in the river. During this term, these sea trout eggs will hatch and Year 5 are going to feed and help these grow. In April, we will take these fish to the river Ribble and release them.

Please help and encourage your child’s learning by:

– Reading a wide variety of books together, commenting on their content and expressing opinions about the characters, setting and plot.

– Checking unfamiliar words and exploring vocabulary with a dictionary.

– Learning times tables and number bonds and ensuring they complete ongoing homework tasks.

– Encouraging them to be independent and develop their general organisational skills.

Keep up to date with our day at school and follow us on Twitter……

Many thanks,

Mr Denton and Mrs Johnson
