Welcome to Year 1
Welcome back after what we hope was a lovely break for you all! The Beech class staff are delighted to welcome you back. In Year one, you will find Mrs Kershaw, Mrs May and Mrs Richards and we are so excited to share this next chapter with you all.
To start off our literacy work this half term, we will be reading the wonderful book ‘Lost and Found’. A favourite of Mrs Kershaws…We will look closely at the characters and plot, before we make changes to write our very own version of the story. We will be developing our reading and spelling within our daily phonics sessions, and children be encouraged to use these skills within their writing. In maths, we will begin the term by revising place value and our knowledge of number. We will then learn about place value and exploring the concept of number, ordering, and times tables will be a daily practice. These sessions will involve developing children’s fluency, problem solving and reasoning skills.
Showbie will be full of wonderful work across the curriculum so please ensure you can login and access it successfully.
Our PE days are indoor PE on Tuesday and outdoor PE on Fridays so please ensure that you have your PE kit in school on these days.
Homework will be sent out via Showbie on Fridays. Please support your child with the completion of these tasks and encourage you child to read regularly at home. Guided reading sessions will be completed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and videos of these will be uploaded onto Showbie so you can see, and hear how we teach reading in school. This I hope will support you to help develop your child’s reading skills at home.
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to speak to one of the Year One team.
